ART
Bringing colour and conviviality
THE CONCEPT
The View Villas experience is all about attention to detail – and that includes the way we choose the décor. Every other season, we work with a contemporary artist to create original artworks for our properties or showcase their existing collections.
The paintings, pictures and photographs we select are carefully positioned inside the property to create a harmonious interior that brings colour and conviviality to your holiday home.
When we hold an exhibition at one ore more of our properties, all artwork on display is for sale with proceeds going to the artist. It is our “thank you” to them for trusting us with their work.
THE EXHIBITION
Simeio Ekkinisis
(sˈɪmɪˌο ˈɛkɪnˌɪsis)
This year, Eucalyptus Villa is proud to host local artist Elpiniki Gelagoti with her exhibition called “Simeio Ekkinisis”. As the artist suggests, this “Starting Point” is undefined, leaving the viewer to freely explore the exhibition and feel complete in the end.
The exhibition consists of works in acrylic paint, oils and mixed media that are excerpts from an experimental era that included the study of colour, shape, tone, light and texture. The value of the creative process is captured in the result. From forms, figurative or not, it defines a new landscape by putting the viewer in a position to explore. Whether one chooses to start from representation to subtraction or vice versa, the process is considered complete.
- What inspired you to make these paintings?
Images from everyday life outside and inside the studio were the stimulus to start capturing my own version of these. Each day the aim was to make images of whatever aesthetic, which in the end by putting them in the same space could have a pictorial coherence rather than a theme.
- Why did you choose these paintings?
They represent a vision that a contemporary space like Eucalyptus Villa can showcase. It’s a suggestion in trying to find a point of communication with the viewer, who as they live in these images, may come closer to contemporary art after this experience.
- Tell us about the technique you used.
I used various techniques as I became familiar with the materials. From painting powders and acrylics, to plastic paints and oil paints, my concept was to push the limits of the material by exploring it.
